FMC Corporation is a global agricultural sciences company dedicated to helping growers optimize crop performance sustainably. When addressing tomorrow’s challenges, we believe the status quo is not an option. FMC is committed to developing powerful solutions that are better for the planet than any that currently exists. Our innovative products integrate the best of synthetic and biological crop protection, plant health and nutrition, as well as precision agriculture technologies.
Join our rapidly growing Pheromones Team
We are now looking for a highly motivated Biochemical Engineer to join our Fermentation and Scale-Up Team at FMC’s Pheromones Team in the Plant Health Division. Join us and become part of a Team that's dedicated to making a real difference in the world. We develop cutting-edge pheromone products designed to control insect pests in an environmentally friendly way.
With our supportive culture and commitment to employee growth and development, you'll have the opportunity to learn, grow, and advance your career. We will do ours to support you to reach your full potential. With a positive mindset and a can-do attitude, we know you'll be an inspiration to those around you, driving our team to achieve even greater heights.
The Pheromones Team is currently based in Central Copenhagen but is expected to move into new laboratories at our European Innovation Center in Hørsholm, Denmark, by 2024.
About the job
In the Fermentation and Scale-up Team, you´ll take on a key role in upscaling R&D laboratory results to full-scale biomanufacturing reality. You will work with a variety of pilot-scale and industrial fermentation processes – from L-scale to 100+ m3 “real deal” production campaigns, and you will follow downstream processing from fermentation broth to yielding to-specs products.
You’ll fit right in with our nerdy Team if you believe there’s beauty in engineering and share our love of shiny, stainless steel process equipment. Working with us is never boring, with no two days being the same. You will work with internal and external partners, and due to the nature of industrial fermentation processes, some workload outside of regular working hours or in connection with travel activity is expected.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Plan, design and execute industrially relevant fermentation and DSP processes at pilot scale for upscaling from R&D laboratory, and for downscaling from production environment.
- Scout for, review, and test technologies as part of our development efforts in collaboration with suppliers and external partners
- Take a lead on improving existing pilot laboratory M3C (process monitoring, measuring, modeling and control) practices.
- Take ownership of data generated in the pilot laboratory - go for it, process it, and present it.
- Participate in fermentation technology transfer to external manufacturing sites.
With safety being one of FMC’s top priorities you are expected to “think safe” and follow our high safety procedures and standards, participate in safety meetings and safety walks.
Qualifications
We are looking for a team player who’ll thrive in a give-and-take environment where we together create results. As you'll be collaborating with many internal departments and external partners, it will help you to have good communications, intercultural and interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate brings the following experiences and qualifications to the role:
- You hold a Master´s Degree in Engineering (e.g., chemical, biochemical or process engineering), combined preferably with some experience in relevant development, upscaling, or production or similar documented experience.
- You possess a good understanding of industrial microbial fermentation processes - upstream and downstream processing.
- You are a curious out-of-the box thinker with a technical mindset and a constructive hands-on attitude
- You are a pragmatic perfectionist who can draw the line at “good enough”
- You like to take on challenges and responsibilities and do it with pride in a good job done, be it of practical or of theoretical nature
- You are comfortable with English being the main work-language at FMC
